The Round of 16 in the Kiev Major 2017 is starting tomorrow and judging from the group stages the games will be very exciting to watch. While the group stages determined the starting spots for the teams and a loss wasn’t the end, the gloves are coming off now and every team will be playing for their tournament lives as a loss would mean the exit from the Main Event of the Kiev Major. There’s been a few surprises along the way and teams like Team Secret and Virtus Pro have exceeded expectations, placing well in the table. It will be very exciting to watch if teams figured out their strategies and can answer with their own. All in all, the Kiev Major shapes up to be one of the closest tournaments to date with all the teams playing extremely good Dota 2.

Dota 2 Icon Round of 16 Betting Odds

The odds for the Round of 16 of the Kiev Major 2017 are available now. Influenced by the teams’ form and placement in the group stages, they can still change so it is best to check the site of the esports bookies beforehand. Nonetheless teams with higher odds can still win and shouldn’t be counted out right now. As it often happens, playing in such a big tournament is quite a different story than playing online and upsets are not far away. Some teams play far better than others if they can hear and see the crowd cheering and feeling the excitement of the fans. Make sure to place Dota 2 bets in time before a match starts.

Dota 2 Icon Round of 16 – Top Matches and Predictions

Match #1: Invictus Gaming Dota 2 Team Logo Invictus Gaming vs.  Mousesports
Start time: April 27th, 12:00 AM PDT / 03:00 AM EDT/ 09:00 CEST

The Round of 16 opens with the Chinese team Invictus Gaming going up against the Greek team Mousesports. Invictus Gaming has been dominating for quite some time now, winning the DAC 2017 shortly before the Kiev Major started. It seems their strategies are almost impregnable, up to the point they seamlessly can switch them if they see them not working. If a teammate is having a bad game, the others step up and play even better. Gathered around the Dota 2 Legend BurNIng they seem to just run over teams and only Team Secret won against them in the group stages. Mousesports too had a huge success in recent history by placing second in the Boston Major 2016 but they seem to have lost form in the time meanwhile. They are still able to surprise however as not many other teams are cheered on as much in LAN events making them an incredibly strong team when they have their fans behind them. Still, Invictus Gaming is the favorite here. Victory: Invictus Gaming.

Match #2: Team Liquid Logo Dota2 Team Liquid vs. Newbee Team Logo Dota2 Newbee
Start time: April 27th, 03:30 AM PDT / 06:30 AM EDT/ 12:30 CEST

Team Liquid vs Newbee is a hard one to call. Team Liquid, even though handled as favorites to win the Kiev Major by some, seem to struggle to find their form and are having a hard time winning against other strong opponents. Newbee on the other hand, coming off a win against The International 2016 Champion Team Random (then Wings Gaming), have found their form so this match up is closer than first expected. Team Liquid is the slight favorite as the individual skill of their members is simply amazing and one can change the flow of the whole game. Still, Newbee is not one to shy away from challenge, so I see this match up going to all three games and being decided by a nail biter. Victory: Team Liquid.

Match #3: Digital Chaos Dota 2 Team Logo Digital Chaos vs. TEam VG.J Logo Dota 2 Esports Team VGJ
Start time: April 27th, 07:00 AM PDT / 10:00 AM EDT/ 16:00 CEST

Digital Chaos and Team Vici Gaming.J is a story of a team exceeding expectations and of a team not living up to theirs. Digital Chaos is one of the surprises the came out of the group stages of the Kiev Major. They qualified under the name Team Onyx by beating favorites Team NP and compLexity in the Kiev Major Qualifiers North America and have continued their good run into this tournament. Digital Chaos is coming together as a team under this tournament experience and if they advance they will only get stronger.  Team VG.J on the other hand was a direct invite and couldn’t really live up to the expectations in the group stages, although they too seem to have regained some form. A lot hinges on Digital Chaos’ mid player Abed as he is the creative playmaker for his team. Shutting him down means likely an easier game for VG.J, so that is probably their main goal. Lead by the incredible experienced rOtK they are not an easy opponent and are the slight favorites for this match up, which will most likely go the full distance to three games. Victory: Vici Gaming.J.

Match #4: Virtus Pro Team Logo Dota 2 Virtus.pro vs. Invictus Gaming Dota 2 Team Logo Invictus Gaming.Vitality
Start time: April 27th, 10:30 AM PDT / 01:30 PM EDT/ 19:30 CEST

Virtus Pro came through the Kiev Major Qualifiers for the CIS region and have been dominating in the group stages so far. Another surprise team known for their extremely aggressive playstyle they are not an easy task to handle as their opponents have found out. Winning six games in dominating fashion and only losing one so far means they are the favorites going up against Invictus Gaming.Vitality who have encountered some troubles along their Kiev Major road. Invictus Gaming.Vitality also came through a qualifier: the China Qualifier for the Kiev Major, in which they were just able to get through. And now they have to face an incredible strong team in Virtus Pro, which most likely will knock them out of the tournament in two games. Victory: Virtus Pro.

Match #5: TNC Pro Team Dota 2 eSports Logo TNC Pro Team vs. Team Faceless Logo Dota 2 Team Faceless
Start time: April 28th, 12:00 AM PDT / 03:00 AM EDT/ 09:00 CEST

TNC Pro Team has once again managed to surprise after their run in The International 2016, where they eliminated OG from tournament in one of the biggest upsets in Dota 2 esports history. Coming off a good groupstage in which they managed to snag the fourth spot, they often seem too much to handle for their opponents. They don’t adhere to the top heroes but rather play their own style of aggression with surprising picks which opponents often don’t know how to react to and seem lost. Coupled with their players skill they often seem unstoppable, even while being behind in a game. Their opponent will be Team Faceless, who is possibly their biggest competitor from the SEA reagion. Team Faceless didn’t see much success in their own groupstage run, nonetheless no other team in the Kiev Major knows TNC Pro Team so well. In addition Team Faceless’ offlaner iceiceice often creates a lot of space for his team by playing unpredictable. That being said, TNC Pro Team are still favorites to win this matchup. Victory: TNC Pro Team.

Match #6: OG Team Dota2 Logo OG vs. dota 2 team random icon Team Random
Start time: April 28th, 03:30 AM PDT / 06:30 AM EDT/ 12:30 CEST

OG is one of the most successful teams in Dota 2 history. They managed to win three official Valve events, the Frankfurt Major, the Manila Major and the Boston Major. No other teams has managed to win as many titles nor defend a title in a Valve competition. This makes them favorites to win the Kiev Major too. In the groupstages their teamwork often seemed lackluster, but OG is a team for the big stage, so expect them to play a lot better from this point out. Team Random on the other hand was the winner of The International 2016 under the banners of Wings Gaming. Lately they seem to lack form and cohesion, bringing down their unpredictable and unstoppable playstyle a notch or two. They had a hard time in the groupstages, so the favorite for this game is OG. Victory: OG.

Match #7: thunderbirds dota 2 logo esports Thunderbirds vs. Evil Genius Team Logo Dota 2 Evil Geniuses
Start time: April 28th, 07:00 AM PDT / 10:00 AM EDT/ 16:00 CEST

Thunderbirds, then known as Digital Chaos, exploded onto the scene in The International 2016 where they placed second in a spectacular run in the tournament. Their captain MiSeRy is the only player to have attended all of Valve’s official events, ranging all the way back to The International 2011. Through this treasure chest of experience they often manage to already get an advantage in the draft. In addition they have really good teamwork and each of their players can shine on their own too. This makes them a hard team to face. Their opponents Evil Geniuses on the other hand is a team that should never be count out. Known as the comeback team, they often manage to snag a win in games that other teams would have lost minutes ago. Evil Geniuses just seem to know how to play in those situations when everything seems lost, surprising their opponents. On a good day they are one of the best teams in the world, making this an incredibly close matchup. Victory: Thunderbirds.

Match #8: Team Secret Logo Dota 2 Team Secret vs. SG e-Sports Dota 2 Team Logo SG e-sports
Start time: April 28th, 10:30 AM PDT / 01:30 PM EDT/ 19:30 CEST

Team Secret has definitely surprised in the group stages of the Kiev Major. Not much was known about their strategies beforehand as they didn’t participate in the DAC 2017 where many other top teams played. This secrecy has paid off now, as they didn’t lose a single game in the group stages and topped the table. It seems as Team Secret has come together as a team now from the draft to the players and teamwork. On the other hand is SG e-sports who qualified through the Kiev Major Qualifiers South America. In their first Valve event they had a hard time going up against the international top teams and placed last in the group stages. On paper this is a very one sided matchup, but on a stage like the Kiev Major anything could happen. Nonetheless, the favorites are clearly Team Secret. Victory: Team Secret.
