It is now less than a month before the most anticipated Dota 2 tournament of the year. The International 2015, and we are going to look at the favorites winning the International 2015 and taking home the grand prize. A couple of months ago, people all knew that Chinese teams were the favorites. A few weeks before the International 2015, a new patch and some roster changes and we now have an open race. Although we do have some favorite teams vying for the Aegis of the Immortal. Here are five teams who are the favorites going into the International 2015, ranked according to the odds that they are going to take home the prize.
Last tournament won: NVIDIA Game 24, September 19, 2014. Defeats Team Tinker 3 games to 1.
Last tournament result: Finished joint 5th to 8th at ESL One Frankfurt 2015. Lost to Invictus Gaming 2 games to 1.
It has been a long time since Cloud9 has won a tournament. Widely regarded as one of the best teams in the world, they can’t seem to shake-off that second place curse. Cloud9 is also one of the most entertaining teams to watch. With team captain Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao being outspoken as he is. You would not know what he will say in an interview or post on twitter. Cloud9 maybe a long shot in winning the International 2015 but they will be fun to watch.
Last tournament won: ESL One Frankfurt 2014, June 29, 2014. Defeats Evil Geniuses 2 games to 1.
Last tournament result: Finished joint 3rd and 4th at ESL One Frankfurt 2015. Lost to Team Secret 2 games to 0.
Invictus Gaming is one of the great Chinese teams. It may have been a long time since they have one a tournament but they have a great history. The former champions of the International 2012, they are looking to be the first team to win the International tournament twice. With Burning at the helm they may have a chance but it will be a tall order for them to win once again.
Last tournament won: StarLadder Star Series Season 12, March 26, 2015. Defeats Invictus Gaming 3 games to 1.
Last tournament result: Joint 5th to 8th at ESL One Frankfurt 2015. Lost to Evil Geniuses 0 games to 2.
How the mighty have fallen. Vici Gaming was once the number one team in the world and looked unstoppable. How a new patch and a few months have changed their perspective. They maybe on a losing streak but they are still one of the best teams in the world. Last year’s runner-up to Newbee, they are looking to win it all this time.
Last tournament won: Dota 2 Asia Championships, February 9, 2015. Defeats Invictus Gaming 3 games to 0.
Last tournament result: 2nd ESL One Frankfurt 2015. Lost to Team Secret 3 games to 1.
Evil Geniuses has found a gem in Suma1l. Many people thought that it would have been very hard to replace Arteezy and zai but have found great replacements in Suma1l and Aui_2000. The Evil Geniuses are certainly hitting their stride close to the International 2015. The only thing that seems to be against them winning the International 2015 would be Suma1l’s inexperience playing in such a big stage and of course our number one pick to win the International 2015.
Last tournament won: ESL One Frankfurt 2015, June 21, 2015.
Last tournament result: Joint 5th and 6th Dota Pit League Season 3. Defaults against Ninjas in Pyjamas
The last few tournaments have been good to Team Secret. They have won 3 straight LAN tournaments before a scheduling gaffe made them miss their game against Ninjas in Pyjamas. Right now, Team Secret looks unstoppable. They have absolutely been stomping the competition in Dota 2. With s4 now doing the drafting duties for Team Secret, they look to be on their way to pick-up the Aegis of the Immortal at the International 2015.
These five teams are the favorites heading to the International 2015. It would be suffice to say that we would be looking at at least one of them fighting for the grand prize in the finals of the International 2015.
